On behalf of the Transylvania University, Lexington, Kentucky, I was invited to participate in the Morlan Gallery, 2007, exhibition entitled “Bad Luck”. In preparation for this exhibition, I began to keep a weekly record of wishes I made and the prognosis from Chinese fortune sticks. Exactly one year later, I calculated the results. While it appeared I was testing the reliability of this system, I was actually pointing out my own rigidity. Even though I have lived in the Middle East for more than half my life, I am dubious about Eastern beliefs. I still find myself trying to quantify and classify.

For this show, I made a film of myself using Chinese fortune sticks. What is luck? What is chance? Can anything be predicted? Why is one belief system more reliable than another? Can anything be proven with scientific methods?
