Over the past years, malls and shopping centers have invaded Istanbul. A new one seems to open every month. In this respect, Istanbul is not unique. These structures have infiltrated urban cities around the world.

As a site specific video installation, onto the ceiling of an Istanbul shopping mall, I projected images of the inside of a suburban U. S. mall and images of the inside of the ancient Istanbul covered bazaar. I find it paradoxical that the concept of a covered shopping area originated in the east, traveled west, and came back to the east in a familiar yet sterile and alienating form.
