Since the 1980s Atakan has been influenced by antique needlework designs and has collected a few pieces. A piece of delicate worn fabric with an embroidered floral design from her collection seemed appropriate to carry the poetical text, Remembering the Future, that she wrote about ‘now’, about this time of ambiguity when we think of our past, realize mistakes we have made, but are unsure about how to move forward.
