About the Team

Join us in building the world's most reliable on-demand logistics engine for last-mile retail delivery! We are seeking an experienced machine learning engineer to develop AI/ML solutions that support DoorDash's expanding Merchant services.

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate Staff-level Applied Machine Learning expert to utilize our data and infrastructure to create a comprehensive AI/ML service for accurate tax categorization of billions of restaurant and non-restaurant items at DoorDash. The role involves leading the development of production-level AI/ML solutions, collaborating across teams, advancing LLM capabilities, and shaping the AI product strategy.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading the development of ML-driven tax catalog solutions, including leveraging Generative AI for efficient tax categorization management.
• Designing ML products for large-scale transaction-level categorization problems.
• Collaborating with engineering and product teams to define and execute the product roadmap utilizing AI/ML.
• Managing the entire modeling lifecycle: feature creation, model development, deployment, experimentation, monitoring, explainability, and maintenance.
• Exploring new opportunities where AI/ML can benefit new business areas, markets, and regions.

Qualifications and Skills

• 6+ years of industry experience leading and deploying impactful machine learning models.
• Expertise in deep learning, NLP, LLM, and multi-modal models.
• Masters or PhD in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Math, or Physics.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Python; experience with Spark, PyTorch, or TensorFlow preferred.
• Familiarity with Kotlin/Scala is a plus.
• Ability to drive ideas using data, rigorous testing, and evidence-based progress.
• Growth-oriented, collaborative mindset with a focus on impact.

Compensation

The starting salary range is based on location, experience, and market conditions, with additional opportunities for equity grants. Benefits include health insurance, 401(k), paid time off, parental leave, wellness benefits, and more. The salary ranges are:

• I4: $119,100 $175,100 USD
• I5: $145,000 $213,200 USD
• I6: $171,600 $252,400 USD
