The Social Worker will provide case management for children and their families in the Unaccompanied Refugee Minor Program (URM), who have been placed in foster care in the District of Columbia. The incumbent will assist in improving the social and psychological functioning of children and their families, aiming to maximize family well-being and children's academic success. Essential Functions Meet with clients face-to-face at least twice a month to conduct safety assessments, determine service needs, and monitor progress toward case plan goals. Collaborate with clients, foster parents, and professional partners to assess needs and determine required services. Serve as a liaison/advocate between clients and foster parents, health specialists, school staff, courts, and other service providers, especially for clients with trauma histories, disabilities, abuse, or poverty. Maintain case records and prepare reports such as court reports, treatment plans, contact notes, and monthly updates. Refer clients to community resources for services like education support, employment training, legal aid, housing, and medical care, and assist clients and foster parents in accessing these services. Work within a team environment including attorneys, service providers, community partners, and government agencies. Develop and review case plans with clients and perform follow-ups to assess service quality and effectiveness. Arrange medical, psychiatric, and other tests to identify causes of difficulties and suggest remedial measures. Coordinate medical and behavioral health appointments for clients. Collect additional information such as employment records, medical reports, or school reports to assist clients. Assist with placing clients in foster homes, institutions, or treatment centers as needed. Prepare clients for transition to independence and young adulthood. Maintain detailed and timely documentation of all contacts. Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation. Possess knowledge or understanding of the U.S. Refugee Resettlement program. Hold a Master’s degree (MSW) from an accredited university and be licensed to practice social work in DC & MD. Culturally competent with experience working with diverse cultures, religions, and nationalities. Experience in writing cohesive reports, treatment plans, and contact notes. Experience in family or trauma-informed therapy. Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance are required. Must pass child protection clearances, criminal background checks, drug screening, and TB testing in DC, MD, and VA. Preferred Skills Over 2 years of experience in child welfare and foster care system. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data collection systems. Strong time management skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
