If These Stairs Could Speak
Poem by artist, photo print on fabric (Photo: Kıvılcım S. Güngörün), embroidery

Since 1969, Nancy has lived in a family building in Istanbul that now faces the possibility of demolition and reconstruction. Using personification to imagine the voice of the stairs, Atakan reflects on generational memories.

You were young

You aged

You Laughed

You cried

I always heard you

I always saw you

I was always beside you
