In Nisantaş, there are several parks and some trees along the streets, but it surprises people to learn that behind the rows of apartments are many open spaces with trees and foliage that can be seen and used only by the occupants of the buildings. Like the artist, for her daughter-in-law, seeing a mutilated tree is heartbreaking. Last week, her daughter-in-law woke up to find that a neighbor had cut down two large trees in the communal space behind her flat to get more light in her apartment. “Secret Gardens 1 and 2” pays homage to these destroyed trees.
