In the watercolor from 1989, the artist has painted a surreal scene with a boat carrying two veiled women. When looking back at this work, Atakan could not remember what she was referencing, but taken in today’s context, she was reminded that we are living in the age of refugees. She included images taken from Botticelli’s Birth of Venus to emphasize our present need for re-birth and attached the boat to a clock pulled forward by fate.
