During her childhood Atakan cut out figures from the Sears catalogue to make imaginary worlds. In this artwork, she adds cloth digital prints of figures from a the 1959 Sears catalogue to a suzani textile that she bought in the 1980s from the Istanbul covered bazaar. Delicate handmade designs combine with images of factory-made clothes. Eastern and western, handmade and machine made collide. A memory of a childhood game enables the past to enter her contemporary artistic practice.
