Inspired by a tree in a Turkish miniature painting Atakan designed Tree of Hope referencing the tradition in Anatolia of hanging pieces of cloth on trees before making a wish. Atakan has replaced stips of cloth with delicately embroidered keys. The artist believes that listening to the silent language of wise old trees that carry memories of the past as well as knowledge about communicating and networking may partially help lift us out of the present environmental disaster.
