When Atakan came to Turkey in 1969, one of the first Turkish phrases she learned was ‘Vakit Geçiriyorum’. (Just passing time). While initially finding it troublesome, in a few years she grew accustomed to and liked the slower pace of life only to see this life style disappear with globalization and the influx of capitalism.
